Pharmacy Contraception Service

The Pharmacy Contraception Service (PCS), was commissioned by NHS England as an Advanced service from the 24th April 2023, allowing the on-going supply of oral contraception (OC) from community pharmacies. The service has since been expanded to include both initiation and on-going supply of OC, and from the 29th of October 2025 the service was expanded further to include the addition of oral emergency contraception to the service, the addition of drospirenone within the list of contraceptives which can be supplied, and the ability of pharmacy technicians to provide the service.

ICB answer some PCS questions:

The ICB have had some queries raised in relation to the following:

  • Which consultation type should be used in which circumstance
  • The length of supply that can be made

They have picked out the relevant areas from the service specification and the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) which will hopefully provide some clarification. To view in full, please click here.
