Sepsis Safety Netting Poster

Do you have an infection? Could it be SEPSIS? Use the SEPSIS symptom checker:

Please click the link below to view a useful poster with QR codes promoting the SEPSIS Symptoms Checker for Adults and Children. The poster can be printed and displayed within your pharmacy to advise patients what to do if they suspect Sepsis and where and when to seek help.

Pharmacy Sepsis Safety Netting Poster

If pharmacy teams struggle to print these and would like a laminated copy sending to them, then please get in touch with Laura at: laura.davis45@nhs.net, and she will try to organise sending one. Laura is also open to any feedback from pharmacy teams about the use of the leaflets or the content.

Facts and figures in the Humber region:

  • Sepsis is the number 1 cause of death in our local hospitals – in the Humber Health Partnership, 22 patients per week die after a sepsis diagnosis, either in hospital or within 30-days of discharge.
  • Patients who present to hospital in the later stages of sepsis, are the most likely to die or require ICU care – we need them to seek help sooner!
  • If we can warn people with infection in the community, about when and where to seek help if their infection becomes worse, it may just save their life.
  • Any infection can cause sepsis – bacterial, viral, fungal or parasitic.

Who is suitable for the safety netting / symptom checker?

  • Anyone who you dispense antibiotics to.
  • Anyone seeking pharmacy first advice for infection.
  • Anyone seeking OTC cold / flu / antipyretic / cystitis type medication.

What information will patients receive?

  • What sepsis is, what causes it and who is at high risk.
  • Red and amber flag signs and symptoms of sepsis.
  • Decision making help – when and where to seek help.
  • Where to find out more information or seek specialist support.
  • English not their first language? All information on the QR link is translatable for most languages.
