How to support somebody through pregnancy or baby loss

26th June 2025 12pm

Half of adults (50%) in the UK have shared that they, or someone they know, has experienced pregnancy or baby loss (Tommy’s). Sadly, there still remains a silence in many parts of our society around this tragic and common issue.  We want to break the taboos that exist around pregnancy or baby loss, by encouraging mothers and parents to talk about what has happened, if they want to.

To improve the support offered to colleagues during this difficult time, we are hosting a training session, delivered by Samantha Catanach, the founder of the Chasing Rainbows baby loss & infertility charity.  This session, ‘how to support somebody who has experienced pregnancy or baby loss’, is aimed at equipping you with knowledge around how to support people in the workplace who have experienced the loss of a baby, miscarriage, or are navigating the challenges of infertility.

This training session will offer invaluable insights into the emotional complexities faced by individuals during such difficult times. Often, we find ourselves at a loss for the right words or actions when trying to offer support. Samantha will draw upon real-life stories from the charity’s service users to illustrate how we can more effectively support people through this difficult time.

This session with help you to understand how we can be better at supporting people with a focus on language and how to be compassionate and supportive as people navigate these difficult situations.

We recognise that training sessions of this kind can be sensitive and may bring up challenging emotions for some individuals. If there is any way we can make this session more accessible for you, please contact Jade Jenkins at jade.jenkins5@nhs.net .  Information about local and national support services will also be provided.
